A Busy March!

2nd April 2016

We have had a very busy month at Kalgarth Grange!

At the beginning of March we took part in World Book Day. All the children and staff made a big effort and everyone looked fantastic in their outfits.

We also took part in Sports Relief and held a cake competition to raise money for this fantastic cause. Just take a look at the photos below to see the amazing cakes that were entered. We certainly seem to have some Mary Berrys in our midst!

We also had an Easter Bonnet parade and competition. All the bonnets were brilliant and it made it very hard to choose a winner!

Settling Your Child Into Nursery

30th January 2016

Babies

At Kalgarth we understand how hard it can be to leave your child for the first time and head off back to work. That is why our settling in sessions are so important for you and for your child.

We offer three sessions before your child starts at nursery; the first is an one hour session with a member of staff who will take you through the necessary paperwork including your child’s current routine, consent forms and initial assessments; as your input into your child’s education is of vital importance to us. This session also gives you the opportunity to browse our policies and procedures that we currently have in place and ask any questions you may have, offering you all the reassurance you need.

The second session allows you to leave your child for the two hour duration. It isn’t compulsory for you to do this and is only if you feel comfortable. We have cameras in our rooms so if you decided that you wanted to see how they would cope without you but not leave the setting then you can come and sit in our reception area and see how your little one gets on.

Our last session allows your child to stay for a morning session or an afternoon of your choosing where your child will stay for a longer period of time.  Allowing them chance to explore our stimulating environments helps your child to build confidence to try new activities and adapt to different transitions that they may not have experienced before.  It is also a great opportunity for them to build positive relationships with the staff that will care for them.

Through the settling in process we support the parent as much as we can through different methods. The settling in period is not just your initial sessions, this goes on until your child is settled into nursery. As your child begins their new journey we like to start your day by creating a little bag full of surprises for your first day without your little one. On their first day we create a ‘First Day Pack’ which consists of a first day sheet which tells you exactly what your child has been up to including pictures, names of children they have interacted with and the staff that have looked after them on their first day. We also create a keyring of your child as a keepsake of their transition from home to nursery life.

Our First Day Pack

During this period our staff are always here to support and assist you. We can email pictures of your child throughout the day of them playing and make courtesy calls to let you know how your child is getting on to put your mind at rest (at least for a little bit!). At collection time we ensure to give you a thorough handover and you will be able to ask any questions.

This support is continued throughout your child’s time at nursery as they transition into each room through our established parent partnerships.

Our Favourite Stories

18th January 2016

The Importance Of Story Time With Your Children

As part of our monthly events the children (and staff) at Kalgarth came dressed as their favourite story characters and participated in story themed activities for the day. Reading stories to your children is very beneficial to their learning and growth. For all ages of children a story can enhance different aspects of their development.

In our Baby Room (0-1yrs), the children can look at familiar images in the books alongside a familiar adult, building on their literacy skills and their personal social and emotional development e.g. “Enjoys looking at books and other printed material with familiar people” (EYFS).

Toddler aged children (1-2yrs) will start to show more of an interest and may have a favourite. At this age the children will also start to develop their communication and language skills by pointing at familiar pictures and using single words. As the child grows, so does their learning.

Between the ages of 2-3yrs (Our Early Learner Room) the learning can be extended further from reading as the children have more understanding. Their communication skills (speaking) will be extended further by asking a variety of questions, using simple sentences and using word endings. A child will also learn to understand the story and identify what is happening.  At this age a child can express their own preferences and be able to select which story they would like to read.

Our Reception children (3-5yrs) loved the opportunity to dress in their favorite costumes. Not only will reading develop their literacy, communication and personal, social and emotional skills, it also brings to life their imagination. The children are able to act out special parts of the stories with their friends and create imaginary play through their interests, which similarly will build their self-esteem and self-confidence which we all know is very important.

So why not tell your child a story and then they can tell you theirs :)

Happy Easter!

2nd April 2015

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

All the children had a great time at our Easter Bonnet Parade. All of the entries were fantastic and we are so proud of the efforts that the children have put in! We had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny who left a little treat for all of the children.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of our Reception children and families for taking part in our boiled egg decorating competition. We were overwhelmed by all your effort and creativity!

Happy Easter
